Blue Peel
What is the Blue Peel?
The Blue Peel is an in-office procedure designed
to significantly improve the appearance and health
of your skin. Using a low concentration of the chemical
trichloroacetic acid (TCA) mixed with a special blue
base to slow penetration, the Blue Peel allows your
doctor to monitor the appropriate depth to effectively
remove the thin surface layers of aged and damaged
skin from the face or other parts of the body. These
dead skin cells are replaced by healthier ones, allowing
the skin's own clarity and tightness to resurface.
The procedure is performed by your own doctor, who
has specialized training and experience with this
highly effective peel.
What is unique about the Blue Peel?
In our office, the Blue Peel can be performed on
the neck and face. Unlike alpha-hydroxy peels or other
superficial procedures, the Blue Peel allows your
doctor to control the depth of the peel and the number
of coats applied in order to tailor the process to
your skin's specific needs. The Blue Peel can even
be performed on the neck, chest, hands, back, arms
and legs
What does the procedure consist of?
The Blue Peel is a quick, relatively simple and highly
tolerable procedure that in most cases, does not require
sedation. Application of the Blue Peel takes about
20 minutes, depending on the number of coats your
doctor has determined are necessary to achieve your
goals. You will experience a mild burning sensation
that lasts two to three minutes (your doctor may use
an electric fan to minimize this sensation.) Immediately
after the procedure, a bluish tint remains on your
skin, which will usually wash off in 12 to 24 hours.
Your doctor can explain the process to you in greater
detail.

Botox
Botox is a Botulinum A toxin utilized to help eliminate
or improve persistent wrinkles. Botox injections are
performed without anesthesia. A small sting is felt
at the point of injection. The effects of Botox are
not permanent and may need to be repeated tow to three
times per year to retain desired appearance. Botox
is useful in treating expression lines and can't be
used to repair sagging skin caused by aging.

The Bioglycolic Line (Glycolic Peel)
Glycolic acid is what is known as an "alpha
hydroxy acid". Alpha hydroxy acids or "AHAs"
are a family of acids that occur naturally in various
fruits and foods. Glycolic acid, found in sugar cane,
is the AHA that has received the most attention medically
because of all the AHAs, it has the smallest molecule.
This small molecular weight enables glycolic acid
to penetrate more effectively and to ultimately bring
about the most dramatic and beneficial changes of
all the AHAs, often collectively referred to as fruit
acids.
Among other things, glycolic acid loosens the "glue-like"
attachments or cellular cement that is characteristic
of many skin conditions such as acne, photodamage
(environmental aging), and hyperpigmentation.
As physicians and researchers have developed a greater
interest in glycolic acid, medical studies have revealed
that glycolic acid may stimulate collagen increase
epidermal volume and even act as a powerful antioxidant
and free radical inhibitor. Tests also illustrate
how glycolic acid acts as a delivery agent when combined
with other beneficial ingredients or medications,
thus potentiating the desired results.
The Bioglycolic Line combines proven glycolic acid
standards with technological advancements far beyond
anything previously available. Skin Research has created
Bioglycolic products to provide the ultimate resurfacing
agents along with additional scientifically calculated
components that equate to unparalleled skin care management.

Laser Facial Resurfacing
Laser technology is being used throughout the medical
field as one of the most exciting scientific advancements
of the decade. OMSS uses a carbon dioxide laser to
treat facial wrinkles, scars, and sun damaged skin.
The laser vaporizes skin cells by emitting pulses
of radiation, which are absorbed by water in the cells.
Penetration of the laser light is very precise, reducing
the risk of pigmentation or scarring complications.
Laser skin resurfacing is performed in our office
under light sedation, leaving you with more natural
looking skin.
Who should consider Laser Skin Resurfacing?
With time most people's skin will form deep superficial
wrinkles. The skin under the eyelids can become loose
and crinkled. Additionally, it can take on a weather
beaten appearance. These changes are due to the constant
action of muscles on the overlying skin. This can
all be attributed to aging.
The wrinkle lines are commonly seen under the eyes
and along the outer portion of the eyes where thy
are known as "crow's feet". They are frequently
seen as vertical lines on the upper lip typically
in smokers. To varying degrees, they also occur on
the forehead, cheeks and lower portion of the mouth.
Cosmetic laser skin resurfacing can help turn back
the effects of time and muscle action on the face.
It can even make you feel better about yourself. It
can not, however, make you younger or completely change
your appearance.
Most skin resurfacing patients are between thirty
and sixty years old. Very successful surgery can also
be performed on patients that are younger or older.
Cosmetic laser skin resurfacing is used to smooth
wrinkles of the face and to rejuvenate the texture
of the skin. It can be combined with other facial
cosmetic surgery operations such as eyelid surgery,
facelift surgery and browlift surgery.
Planning Surgery
Each patient has very individual and
specific concerns. During your consultation these
concerns will be discussed. An evaluation of your
face, neck and forehead will be made in order to determine
if cosmetic laser skin resurfacing is appropriate
for you. Photographs will be taken as a part of our
permanent record. These help to plan the surgery and
to evaluate the post-operative result. A medical history
will be obtained that includes general medical problems
as well as smoking, the use of medications that can
promote abnormal recovery and any healing difficulties
that you may have. Having realistic expectations about
the results of surgery is very important. These should
be discussed during the consultation. Your overall
emotional state is also important as it can effect
both your satisfaction with surgery and your post-operative
course.
Before Surgery
It is important to follow any instructions
given to you prior to surgery. These will include
information eating, smoking and medication usage.
In general, your skin should not be tanned prior to
laser skin resurfacing. An anti-viral medication will
usually be prescribed prior to treatment. Carefully
following your instructions will make the treatment
and post-operative period easier.
Post-operative Effects
After surgery the treated area will
be red and tend to weep for several days. Redness
persists for a longer period of time. The exact length
of time depends on the area treated and the type of
laser used. Mild discomfort, easily controlled with
medication, is common for several days after treatment.
Significant pain is very rare and should be brought
to our attention.
